Cannes Critics’ Week Unveils 2025 Lineup

The Cannes Film Festival has just unveiled the 2025 Critics’ Week lineup, featuring about a dozen films from breakout talents showcasing either their first or second features. The 78th edition of the festival will run May 14-22. This year’s jury is presided over by Spanish filmmaker Rodrigo Sorogoyen, along with Oscar-winning actor Daniel Kaluuya, Moroccan film critic Jihane Bougrine, French-Canadian cinematographer Josée Deshaies, and Indonesian producer Yulia Evina Bhara.
One of the most anticipated films of this lineup is Shih-Ching Tsou’s solo directorial debut, Left-Handed Girl, which she co-wrote with Oscar winner Sean Baker. The duo previously co-wrote and directed Baker’s second feature film Take Out back in 2004. Set in Tapei, Left-Handed Girl is a tragicomedy that follows a single mother and her two daughters who relocate to the Taiwanese capital and try to build a new life there. Baker also edited the film himself, as well as co-produced it.
Other highlights from the lineup include the section’s opening night film, Laura Wandel’s hospital/custody drama Adam’s Interest starring Anamaria Vartolomei (Being Maria; Mickey 17), French director Pauline Loquès’s drama Nino starring Théodore Pellerin (Lurker), Thai filmmaker Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke’s fantasy A Useful Ghost, and Momoko Seto’s animated feature Dandelion’s Odyssey which will close out the section.
