QUEENS OF DRAMA Trailer: Fame Threatens Love in Lesbian Pop Musical Satire

QUEENS OF DRAMA

“This is my heart, it’s yours… forever.”

Filmmaker Alexis Langlois, known back in his native France for his extravagant music videos, makes his feature debut with Queens of Drama. Premiering at last year’s Cannes Critics Week, the film charts the rise and fall over two decades of star-crossed lesbian pop singers Mimi Madamour (Louiza Aura) and Billie Kohler (Gio Ventura). The duo first meets as competitors in a television singing competition where Mimi is selected and goes on to have a huge pop hit. At the same time, Billie is rejected and pursues underground success as a punk rocker. Asia Argento, Alma Jodorowsky, and Eurovision 2019 singer Bilal Hassani also star.

Langlois co-wrote the film with Carlotta Coco and Thomas Colineau. It made its North American premiere at last year’s Fantastic Fest. Ahead of its stateside release on April 18, Altered Innocence has released the extravagant U.S. trailer.

Here’s the official synopsis:

An outrageous lesbian pop musical satire inspired by the pop frenzy of the early 2000s, QUEENS OF DRAMA charts the rise and fall of new star Mimi Madamour and her passionate, rage-fueled love affair with punk icon Billie Kohler. Over the course of half a century we follow these drama queens as they top the charts and set sail on the course of mad queer love. Featuring an iconic cast, including Asia Argento and Alma Jodorowsky, and containing hit songs like ‘Don’t Touch’ by Yelle and ‘Fisted to the Heart’, this film vividly dissects the turbulence of toxic relationships—whether between fans and their idols or within passionate queer love affairs. Director Alexis Langlois brings his trademark glittercore pop-punk aesthetic to create a vibrant, unforgettable spectacle of music and passion.
